Automatic Vehicle Detection and Classification System for Multi Lane Free Flow

E-mail Print PDF
The Automatic Vehicle Detection and Classification System for Multi Lane Free Flow is designed to meet the need of Brisa, to have their own AVDC system for Multi Lane Free Flow. One objective of this project was to provide a solution with support for two different standards: Northwest Parkway classification and Brisa classification.

The project involved the development of two components: an embedded system named AVDC-Lane and  a classification coordinator. The AVDC-Lane is responsible for pre-processing the signals from sensors placed on the road, with one for each lane. The classification coordinator performs the classification based on processed information from the various AVDC-Lane, producing in addition to the classification, ancillary information such as position, speed and direction. This information is made available to other systems.

The solution was developed as a final product and is operating in the Northwest Parkway concession. It is expected the installation in Portugal in the near future.
